If your train is going to be delayed 50 minutes, there are not many more beautiful stations to have to wait in than Taormina.

There were waiting rooms for first, second and third class, each decorated and furnished as appropriate for its rank, all open apart from the first class saloon.

We are on our way now and have just arrived in Messina where the train is being loaded onto a boat to make the crossing to mainland Italy.
My husband, Mark, and I have just sold our house and are taking a year out to have an adventure before we settle down to retirement. We decided on a journey through Italy as it has the perfect combination of good weather, interesting history, great wine and wonderful ice-cream! As we will be starting our journey in January, we are beginning in the very south of the country.

Wow what wonderful photos and brilliant description Anne. All very fascinating and adds to our bucket list! It’s very springlike here but we won’t expect it to last too long. We’ve been organising a long break up in The Lakes for May and also a trip to New Zealand for next year. The girls meanwhile are battling bronchitis and nasty coughs which we have so far avoided, fingers crossed. Carry on with your lovely adventure. Lots of love xxx
